Yacht Transport Not Quick And Easy Task
At some time during the life of a yacht, transport will likely be needed either to move it from the factory in which it was built, into dry dock for repairs or to another part of the country if the owner moves. When a person spends possibly several million dollars on a luxury boat they usually spare no expense in having it moved, but that is not to say they are willing to overpay for inadequate yacht transport.
Depending on its size, yacht transport is not going to be a quick and easy task, especially for sailing yacht with deep keels. Unless the vessel is equipped with a retractable keel, it will be in contact with the trailer several feet before the sides of the boat. When planning for yacht transport obtaining a custom fitting support system for the trailer to hold the boat securely and safely will be necessary, whether a sail or power boat.
While the owner can make many of the preparations for yacht transport on their own, for insurance purposes and greatly reliability, it is probably best to let the yacht transport company take care of everything from pulling it out of the water until it arrives in storage. If the owner is paying a company based on its experience, then they may as well make use of the experience in regards to the vessel’s safety.
Special Licenses And Permits May Be Needed
One of the first things that need to be done when preparing for yacht transport, is to map out a route on highways that allow for the transport of the size on which the boat is being hauled. Some roads may have low overpasses that will not allow the size load to pass underneath. Once the route is established, it will be necessary to check with different state agencies to obtain the proper permits for hauling an oversized load.
Each state may have different rules, so checking with every state in which the yacht transport will take to insure there are no delays, as well as added costs due to fines, when moving the boat through the planned route. In some states, it will be necessary to have a police escort until through the state, and the yacht transport company will pay this expense, subsequently charged to the owner.
Having all loose ends secured aboard the yacht will help minimize the chance of damage from transport, remembering it will be traveling many highways that may not be smooth. They will also encounter the air over the moving boat and anything that is not secured is subjected to being moved by the wind or bounced out of cabinets.
